I know what you are thinking. ‘Dumpster Dorm.’ What kind of name is that? Are they dumpster divers? The short answer, not exactly…
Every year, Clarkson University spends $7,000 disposing of gently used or even unused dorm supplies that are left behind. Clarkson lies at the foot of the Adirondacks and the campus has dedicated itself to integrate sustainable practices in order to preserve the beauty of the environment. With 640 acres of land, 250 which are forever-wild, Clarkson values our local environment and the well-being of their students.
When tasked with building a business for our first-year entrepreneurship class, it seemed obvious that we needed to solve a campus problem. Our plan is to collect reusable appliances and dorm supplies left at the end of the academic year. Instead of letting the dumpsters overflow, we are offering opportunities for students to buy quality and affordable items while creating an environmentally-conscious community.
Our location on the Clarkson University campus makes us an integral part of the community. We offer students a convenient place to buy dorm supplies directly on campus. There is no need to find a ride or potentially lose a parking space in exchange for a 15 minute trip to Walmart. The move to college can be stressful, from preparing for classes to finding the ultimate spot to place your fridge. By providing convenience to Clarkson students, we are making the move easier and greener, one dorm at a time.
